Northern Michigan Lamb and Wool Festival

September 27, 2010
I'm just back from Northern Michigan Lamb and Wool Festival.  I'm overwhelmed with all the wooly wonderful things I saw.  What a fabulous weekend, even though my feet still hurt.

It occurs to me that there are many wonderful fiber festivals around the world that we may not even know about them all.  Here are a some resources for how to find events in your area.

Fiber Math - Algebra in real life!

June 27, 2010
I know that you tried to stay awake in Algebra class, but just in case you didn't, or in case you just weren't very good at story problems, I thought I'd run through a little math calculation that I did today, and quite frequently in my wooly world.

The first number tells you how many plies are in the yarn. (I have seen these backwards at times… so know that USUALLY, the smaller number is the number of plies.)

The second number tells you how many 1000 meters per kilogram are in each ply of the yarn.

So a 2/20 yarn is 2 ply and each ply has 20,000 meters per kilogram.  Therefore the plied yarn has 10,0...
